As the train travels through the verdant rainforests and rural west-coast towns of Malaysia, enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the comfort of your cabin. Arrive at Kuala Kangsar and alight to board a coach, which whisks you away from the city to a rural village set among the rice paddies and surrounded by hills and mountains. Rejoin the train at Padang Rengas Station and enjoy lunch before spending a relaxing afternoon either in your cabin, the bar, or the Observation Car. Look out for the picturesque limestone massifs that rear up from the rice fields. As the train crosses into Thailand, the scenery changes to include wing-roofed Thai temples and bustling stations. After lunch, alight at Alor Setar station for a boat trip to Langkawi’s Pulau Payar Marine Park, renowned for its vibrant underwater life, from parrot fish and angel fish to moray eels and grouper. Here, you will be provided with a luxury picnic set and have an array of options to choose from. Unwind with wellness experiences such as a massage, meditation and tai chi, try paddle boarding and snorkelling or stride off on an island walk. For the third day of your train journey, you’ll arrive in Penang Island. Discover Peranakan cooking, with a visit of a spice shop and traditional grocery stores to purchase herbs and vegetables, before trying your hand at making some enticing local dishes. The second suits those with a passion for culture and art, head to Georgetown Old Quarter to see stunning temples, a contemporary studio and an opera and puppet house. For the independent explorers among you, navigate Georgetown’s picturesque streets at your own pace, along with a map, a tri-shaw and a driver. Your driver will take you anywhere you want to go, from grand attractions to hidden corners.

Enjoy breakfast in the restaurant car with your fellow travellers as you travel through Johor, the southernmost state of Malaysia, known for its beaches and rainforest. Soon afterwards, the train crosses the strait to Singapore, where you disembark with your magical memories.

Enjoy Georgetown, a UNESCO World Heritage city on the island of Penang. Here we will partake in the Hungry Ghost Festival. The Ghost Festival, also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival, or Yu Lan is a traditional Chinese festival and holiday celebrated by Chinese in many countries. Malaysia celebrates the Hungry Ghost Festival with a rather modernized twist. Live performances and concerts scatter around the countries’ major cities, thus making it unique and stand out among the other countries that celebrate the same festival. These live shows are locally known as ‘Koh-Tai’ by the Hokkien-speaking people. These are performed by a group of singers and dancers on a temporary stage set up within a residential district. Various prayers, religious activities, opera performances, and puppet theaters will be conducted throughout the month at various venues.

Please note this portion of our tour involves hiking in the jungles of Sabah and visiting small villages and wildlife.
